Unofficial LauncherLite

Story:

I originally wrote MoDBuilder that was given out during CoD4, but unfortunately since I had to work on CoD5 it did not get the love and support it really deserved. So it really was never finished... At the end of CoD5 I wrote my own version of the CoD4 Compile Tools, which is actually a Lite version of our normal DEV version, called Launcher (which we modded from IW's version (IWLauncher)).

The Launcher that came with CoD5 tools is actually not mine, even though I may have done some work on it... By the time the MOD Tools came out I was no longer an employee at Treyarch, so someone else took what I had (who did not like VB) and rewrote it in C# and, in my opinion made it ugly and not very user friendly unless you like Forum Hunting.

So, my version of LauncherLite is to alleviate all of the mess and hopefully give you the correct information or point you in the right direction to find it... But more importantly to make it intuitive! My goal is to create a tool that both n00bs and the most advanced modder can use.

Quick Description:

LauncherLite is a tool that helps the modders in the Call of Duty universe create their levels and mods.

  1. Nice dude, checking it out now, we could sure do with an improved Launcher version!

  2. -Does not work with CoD5 (due to the Games for Windows and documents & settings)

Not YET *LOL* But I think there might be a work around for that :)

  3. Very cool! Can’t wait to try it… if the company store ever gets around to fulfilling my COD PC order that is :(

  4. I think the choice of C# was more driven by you not being able to support the engineers because of other commitments
Its sometimes easier to switch to a language you are comfortable with than to learn an archaic and broken language like VB :) .. also no one in the world besides you likes VB you know that right ?

  5. LOL! There is nothing wrong with VB, in fact it’s a lot like C#, which I did start making the tool in, but I was moving too slow, so I had to go back to something that had better help online and better VisStudio implementation.

Are there any benefits, besides having other people working on it, to switching and learning C# rather than using VB?

BTW, I work best with archaic languages. :P

  6. “besides having other people working on it” is the key to that particular problem
If you want to work on tools in solo mode then VB is fine , If you want support from friends or co-workers choosing a language they are more comfortable with is a smart move
C# is a good language for mucking around with doing UI apps etc . also if you learn C# you can mess with XNA and write your own Xbox 360 game ( BONUS )

  7. Damn you and your Bonus! :P

  8. see always a silver lining !!
